0-60 in a RX8
I was just wondering what you guys were pulling in the 0-60's or if you know on avg. at about what that number would be. I've heard so many numbers but nothing thats been consistent. Can anyone tell me what it could be around? Thanks

Re: 0-60 in a RX8
5.9 sec 0-60
14.5 @ 95.6 1/4 mile
15.9 0-100
top speed of 148 (though it is electronically governed and can do that in fifth gear)

Re: 0-60 in a RX8
0-60 numbers vary greatly from driver to driver depending on experience. Don't expect to get the Magazine numbers if you aren't a very experienced driver, or have multiple runs to be able to throw out all the bad numbers. Straight line driving is not what the car is designed for anyway, use it in the twisties to really experience it's abilities. I've test driven it a couple of times but haven't had a chance to take through what I call a real test yet. So far it is only marginally faster than my RSXtypeS.

Re: 0-60 in a RX8
So will that be faster than my RX-7(95)? Because I'm planning to save some money to buy the RX-8(Just couldn't live with Papa's car forever.)

The RX-8 with the more powerful (238 HP) engine is rated at 6.4 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62mph). So that would mean right around six second to reach 0-60mph. I had one of Mazda Germany's test cars for a few days, and it never really ever felt like it accellerated that fast. It felt more like a 7-second car to me.
However, that's probably only subjective, because the torque curve comes on, and tapers off very gradually. The car is probably accellerates quite a bit more quickly than what the driver perceives.
I had the same seat-of-the-pants problem with the S2000, which felt like it was even slower, and we all know that it's pretty darn quick too. The bum-o-meter can be misleading.

Well, thats to be expected, since all nonturbo rotary engined cars have a fairly linear acceleration curve, So it doesn't have low end punch like a big V8 and at the same time it lacks that kick felt in a high revving small engine.
If a rotary was allowed to rev high enough, it would continue to make power (it wont drop off), but most that are in passenger cars dont have seals strong enough to withstand high revs.
There are NA RX race motors that rev to 11k and make lots of power.

yes but if theres any turning involved a rx-8 will make it to 60 before an evo would... i raced a stock evo in my stock rx8 and killed it in turns, but on staright aways the evo pulled ahead. but dont take my word for it i may not be as good of a driver as you or better but thats my experience any way
