Question Desperetly Seeking Advice Help Please

Can someone help me with my problem. I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero. I have replaced the front right wheel bearing 4 times and it just went again. I have used GM certified parts and after market parts both of them seem to need be replaced after 2 - 3 months.

The car has never been in any acidents, No vibrations, no irregular tire wear. No pulling to the left or right. There has to be another problem with the vehicle besides the wheel bearing. The brakes and rotors hve been replaced. Where can I start as this is getting very expensive.

Has there been a recall on any parts. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Boridley

What happens does it start to howl ? Or does the ABS light come on ? If you don't torque the axle nut to spec you might make the howl.

The last one the abs light came on. This one that I have not changed only makes a noise turning left. The other ones made a howling noise when driving or braking.

Re: Desperetly Seeking Advice Help Please

The last one went the same way started making noises when turning left only. The wife just called me and it has been making that noise for 3 weeks and the abs and traction control light has come on. this means the wheel bearing is now gone and has to be replace.

This is number 5. The wheel bearing is free under warranty but I have to pay the labour. This wheel bearing lasted 2 months and the last one lasted 3 months. As you see it is getting very expensive.

As for could it be a tire. I am confused how the tire would cause a wheel bearing to go in 2 months. Looking for any suggestions. Is there a spot in the forum to advertise a car for sale as this one will be on the selling block very shortly.

Thanks for the responses

A tire won't make a bearing go bad. It could make a noise though. Thats a shame the shop charges labor for something thats less than a year old. I would begin to wonder if they are using a torque wrench on the axle nut or an air gun.

We changed the wheel bearing and hand torqued everything right to spec. The weel bearing seems to be doing fine but the ABS and check engine lights are on constantly. This stared about a month after the wheel bearing was changed. Checked the codes and has 15 seperate codes including the abs senser on the right front wheel beraing. The garage suggested it may be a bad ground causing all the problems. I have cleaned 4 ground points and the problem still persists. The cruise control now stops spuraticaly while driving and the gas gauge is no longer accurate. Yesterday I ran out of gas on a 1/4 tank.

Is my car possesed or is there a mechanical explanation for all the problems. Any suggestions

Re: Desperetly Seeking Advice Help Please

make sure as Busted suggested that your shop isn't using an impact wrench to install the hub nut. IF they are, that is why you are having so many hub problems. The hub bearings in your car have an abs sensor built in, and the "hammering" of an impact wrench breaks the abs sensor, which in turn spills it's guts into the bearing rollers, and the hub is toast. I can't believe that the garage keeps charging you labor after such a short time. I'd go back and demand they do the next one gratis, and watch them to ensure that they hand tighten the axle nut.
