You have to go in under the wheel well. Remove the plastic screws of the mud guard lining. You can reach up there and twist turn the light assembly. It will drop down in your hand but will still be connected to the wiring. you can disconnect the wiring harness if you want but it is just another step. Don't go in from the front... it's a dead end.

Good information!
Last year we brought my wife's Montero sport into the shop for a marker light replacement, and it was a $60 repair. This time, the right side marker light went out, and I couldn't see spending that for a flippin' BULB! You've helped us alot with this bit of info.
