LT1 debuted in the '92 Vette and was offered until '96 - it put out 300 HP @ 5000 RPM and 340 lb/ft TQ @ 4000 RPM.
LT4 was only available in '96 with the Grand Sport and M6 Manual Collector's Edition Vette's (could not get it with an automatic Vette). With the end of the ZR-1 Vette & LT5 engine in '95, GM needed to tide people over with something better than a "base" Vette in '96 until the new LS1 powered C5 model came out in '97. LT4 mill made 330 HP @ 5800 RPM and 340 lb/ft TQ @ 4500 RPM.
The LT4 was basically a factory hot-rodded LT1 engine with fast burn heads, higher compression ratio, bigger fuel injectors, roller rockers, higher lift cam, higher redline (6300 vs 5700 RPM), etc...
The LS1 came out in the '97 C5 and puts out 350 HP @ 5600 RPM and 360-375 lb/ft TQ @ 4000-4400 RPM (auto vs manual). Redline is 6000 RPM.
