bmw repair manual/check engine light is onsaman 01-09-2004, 06:01 PM Hey everyone im new to this forum. I have a 1992 bmw 318is I just bought a bmw 3 series service manual, the grey one thats really thick. It says if ur check engine light is on (which it is) then turn the key on and depress the gas five times in under five seconds, and the check engine light will flash and the flashing is a code telling you what kind of problems the car has. Well I did this, and sure enough the check engine light did flash, but i dont know what those flashes mean? There is a table in the manual that tells you what all the different codes are, but how do i know which is which? In the manual it says like Code 1211: DME Control Module. How do I know which flash that is supposed to represent? Is this some sort of morse code? Im so lost, someone please help me. Thank you KC Ron Carter 01-15-2004, 08:57 PM http://www.bimmerzone.com/fcodes.htm Wait for a few seconds and you will see the Check Engine light flash once, then start it will start to blink. All codes are comprised of 4 digits. The number of blinks corresponds to the fault code. For example, ON then pause, ON ON then pause, ON ON ON ON then pause, ON ON ON then off would be a 1243. Each four digit code will be flashed sequentially. When the codes start to repeat, all stored codes have been displayed. Turn the ignition off and check the codes with the table below. 1444 and 2444 means no problem and that is what you hope to find! Later, Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
