Hey guys! New member here. Great Board by the way. Already found a couple useful things. My problem is I have a pecking/knocking noise in the engine (V8). It only do this after sitting overnight or ten to twelve hours. Also it only does this when temp is 50 degrees or below. It does this for the first two or three minutes. Doesn't seem to be as bad in park. Once you pull it into drive its there. Anyone else seeing this or heard of anything like this. Using 5w30 Valvoline and Fram filter

I am very curious of the same sound your having. Now I have incurred smoke from the exhaust after standing a period of time and in the 40 degree zone. Dealer told me it could be a computor glitch which say causing it to throw access gas. Ummm! Oh yea! 2001 Tundra V8. 25,500 miles.

Lot's more blue smoke! Going to the dealer in the morning. Get this.... Everything was fine, untill I went for an oil change. Going to enteresting, so keep tuned in. Just hope they talk to me as atleast half a nitt witt. I'm not playing they're ping pong game tommorro. Let's just calm down and see what they're going to do. I'll keep you posted. Wish us all luck with the Tundras out there. Otherwise, it's been a darn good truck.

I also just bought a 2003 Tundra Limited. 13,000 KM and an annoying "tick-tick-tick" from under the hood...clearly audible in the cab. I live in Canada so it's been ticking every day since I bought it. It is definitely worse when it is cold. Funny thing is the dealer told me it was the fuel injectors. I wish I knew this before buying one since it sure doesn't make it sounds like a $40K+ vehicle. Doesn't sound like there are any fixes based on some searching the internet. I wonder if synthetic would improve things. I'd love to hear if anyone comes up with a solution.

Hi guys new poster here. I live in Michigan where its usually cold and my Tundra with 9000 miles does the same thing. Tickticktick. When it warms up it goes away. Is it piston slap or valve train noise???

my 2000 sr5 2wd access also makes a ticking noise. It is not a knock, but a tick. It's louder when the weather is cold and when I put my foot into the gas. doesnt seem to hurt performance any tho. I've been wondering if my exhaust manifold might have a leak. Heard that could make a ticking sound.

I read on a tundra site that it could be your exhaust manifold. I have a 2000 Tundra and mine makes a ticking noise when I start it. After a while it gets quite but I can still hear it a little. I just don;t know what side its comming from

It wason Tundra Solutions.com and they have said every one of the exscuses the stealership will give you is bunk. Most have found out is PISTON SLAP. Go the the dealer and have them document it.

Try using 5W30 synthetic motor oil along with a good quality filter.

Not going to help if it's the SLAP, Toyota has started to admit these early i-forces had piston slap!

Not to sound like Chicken Little or anything but... over a period of time, knocking (slapping) will result in metal fatigue. Although mine has never made a sound, this is something I would worry about.

Does anyone know if the 4.7 crank is forged or cast?
