EGR valve location and FPR location

hello...new to the blazer community.
have a 1995 LS 4x4.
symptoms are common to those i have read about,
such as rough idle and taking a while to start.
i want to clean the EGR valve or replace it and also the FPR,
but i have no idea where they are under the hood.
i probably need to get a haynes manual but for now i will
rely on the help of all of you
thanks in advance!

Re: EGR valve location and FPR location

The erg valve is on the front of the intack manifold just behind the upper serpentine belt pulley...it is hard to reach but with extensions and knuckle socket you will be able to remove it...the haynes manuel a good investment $21.25...just bought one last weekend...Best Wishes...MJohn

Re: EGR valve location and FPR location

If your Blazer has the 4.3L "W" engine, it will always be prone to having pieces of carbon lodging themselves in the EGR valve, holding it open. I had a 1995 Jimmy (went with my ex) that had this problem. I took the valve out once, GM replaced it once (no charge), but the problem kept happening from time to time. Whenever the valve would stick, I put the trans in L1 and drove ~20 mph for 1/4 mile or so. This usually cleared it out until it happened again.

Re: EGR valve location and FPR location

My Jimmy also had the hard starting problem. The cause was the injector leaking down. The injector and fuel pressure regulator are one piece. It looks like an insect - six legs. It's underneath the upper intake. I understand the leaking down is a common problem.

Re: EGR valve location and FPR location

Dan...what did it cost to replace the insect?...
How much for labor and how much for parts...did you buy the parts online? I checked a injector site...Tech something and the fuel pressure regulator alone was about $108. delivered to me...

Re: EGR valve location and FPR location

My ex had the insect replaced. She mentioned something like $400 just for the part. Fortunately, she was housekeeping for a couple with a personal mechanic, who changed it for her.

The engine ID is the 8th VIN digit. I believe it could be W or Z until 1996, when both were replaced with X. The W engine EGR valve is under the throttle body. The intake hose has to come off to get to it. I'm pretty sure the Z engine has it in the same location, but it's easier to see, since there is no intake hose in the way. I'm not sure about the X engine location.

Re: EGR valve location and FPR location

Mine wasn't leaking bad enough to be causing a [noticeable] problem all the time. I was only noticing starting problems. Replacing the insect did cure it though. I have also read about the plastic gas lines connected to the insect inside the plenum cracking as well, causing a rich running problem. It would be a good idea to replace those when you're in there.

Yeah, the place you're referring to is LinderTech out of indianapolis, Indiana. I just ordered a nut kit from them and an egr screen. Replaced the insect a couple years ago and nobody had a nut kit so I had to let it be for the time being. Now that I found it, I'm taking care of that before it becomes a problem. You are correct, they have the regulator only for about 100 bucks, the nut kit was 55. Entire CPI assemblies with gaskets and all run 300 and their stuff is guaranteed. Great people to deal with so far, and they have LOADS of good info on engine management troubleshooting and hard to find parts. Good luck guys...

look at your exhaust manifolds the egr tube comes off one just follow it up to the valve. The 8th number in the vin will tell you what the engine is.

Just got through putting in spider assembly and was about 450.00 at partshouse, dont forget to change the "Nut" kit too. When you take off manifold cover(Flume),you can tell whats leaking by sight,If drivers side is clean on bottom, and sutty on passenger side ,then nut kit leaking,if passengr side bottom clean,Reculator leaking,"""REPLACE BOTH"
