1987 S-10 Blazer 4WD 2.8 Dead Seeking to Change

I just bought this Blazer, it is in immaculate condition, 1 owner and 49K original miles. The issue is that the 2.8L V-6 is blown. I bought this thing for pocket change and am planning on having a new engine put in it. I have never attempted to do anything like this and am trying to research it. The number one thing that I have found out is that the 2.8L isn't highly thought of. I have found that some replacement include a 3.1L and 3.4L. Seeking advice on how to proceed. Thanks

If your replacing the motor why settle with a puny 6 banger?Throw a fresh 350 or 305 in there and feel the joy.

I've considered it but want to use this vehicle for on the road and light off road. I just bought a Nissan Titan 5.6L V-8. It lets you feel the joy!
