Unhappy 96 cherokee no crank, then runs, then no crank

Thanks for the help everyone. My 4.0L 4X4 Cherokee Sport will not crank. Then, about 30 minutes after it wouldn't crank....it started. Three days later it happened again...wouldn't crank at all. All lights, radio, etc. work fine. I've read a lot on the board about the CPS, ignition switch, and key switch. Any ideas??

Thumbs up

Hey another newbie.

I have a 96 Classic and it does the same thing, but when it won't start I push the automatic shifter forward and turn the ignition and it starts. It seems that it is the neutral safety switch but I don't know. I will be working on it this weekend and will let you know what I find.

Re: 96 cherokee no crank, then runs, then no crank

96Classic,

Thanks for the reply. I just took it into the shop today and replaced the starter. Works great. I guess the starter was just worn out. Good luck with the neutral safety switch.
