help with rearend in my truck

im trying to figure out a few things on my truck. i have a 89 silverado 4x4 2500 but the axle has 6 lugs instead of 8. same with the front. i was told that it is a light duty. well now after 200 thousand miles and the reaerend is making a sort of howl/roar and ive been told that the bearings are shot in it. my question since im sure i can find a rearend cheap so i can get on with my job will i have to look for a light duty 3/4 ton or is it acually just a 1/2 ton axle. thanx for the info

You have 2 different axles you can get. One 6 lug is the one that is on the 4x4 1/2 ton pickups which would be a 10 bolt. Another 6 lug would be the 2wd 3/4 ton axle which, i think, is a light duty 14 bolt. Thats wierd that you would have a 4x4 3/4 ton with 6 lugs...all the ones i've seen are 8 lug.
