No more adjustment avail on the clutch

I tried to adjust my clutch because it does not have the grabbing power I would expect. I was able to loosen the clutch cable below the battery tray so the transmission bracket it connects to has been released all the way. The clutch grabs around 1/4 to 1/2 the way out, but does not actually fully engage until almost 100% pedal release.

Question: Am I losing my clutch or is there another adjustment that needs to be checked? (pedal free-play, etc.)

My pedal when fully released is about 1/2 inch to 1 inch higher than my brake pedal also. Not that matters.

Also note: There is either 49,000+ miles on the original clutch or 17,000+ miles. The original owner had the transmission replaced at 32,000 under warranty (was squealing when coming to a stop in neutral according the paperwork) but it does not say anything about replacing the clutch.

I have a 91 P10 with 122k on the clock. My clutch is extremely stiff, the cable is squeaking, making noise when I cold start the car due to the pressure plate is still in contact with the clutch (in neutral with clutch pedal fully released), and slips when I gun the car - worse when going up hill and gunning it.

I have already adjusted the cable but not much improvement has shown. So I think we are pretty much on the same page. Clutch replacement is needed soon.

Clutch Master is my choice. Next is ACT. Or OEM clutch. I would also loved to have the lighten flywheel from Clutch Master but this probably would not happen. Acutally, I will be happy if my clutch is lighter to operate, grabs better, and don't make the noise in the cold. I guess the OEM clutch set would do. The cost at a clutch shop is $459.

I have to do some research on my options.

One day I got in my car and went to put it in reverse and it grinded, so I tried again and it did the same thing. I drove it and it happened when I would put it in first, except it didn't grind it just was a b!t*h to get it in gear. I went to adjust the clutch cable and it was total adjusted to one side. I just had a clutch put in a couple of months ago just I figured that the grinding was because I need a new cable, but after I got a new cable I still have a hard time putting it into gear. I guess my problem is different the yours, it must a transmission or something, I don't know!

Yes. It sounds different, but at the same time it sounds the same.

The thing that is bugging me about mine, is that it still grabs well. It just seems to have a large range before it actually grabs 100%. My old NX2000 grabbed like a freakin' monster all the way up to 113,000 when it finally gave out and two forks broke inside the tranny.

I had the tranny replaced and a standard clutch put back in and it grabbed even harder.

The G20 just does not grab worth anything and hasn't since I bought it back in March 2001 with only 42,000 miles on it. It now has approx. 48,000.

Just doesn't seem right.

I have to do some research on my options. This is indicative of a frayed cable sticking inside it's sleeve. I suggest replacing the cable before either the cable snaps or the clutch gets completely fried from slipping all of the time.

I'm really glad that my P10 has a hydraulic clutch.:D
