Speedometer help nedded

I have a weird problem with my speedometer. It shows the speed a little higher than the actual speed by about 10% or 5MPH, however my OBC seems to read the speed ok, is there any way to adjust the speedometer to read the speed correctly?

Thankx for your help!

You have just come face-to-face with a BMW-designed error. In Europe, there is a stiff penalty if a car manufacturer puts out a speedometer on which the displayed speed is less than the actual vehicle speed. To ensure this doesn't happen, BMW designs in a bias where the speedometer will always read ~5% higher than the actual speed. I've posted this same question and based on what I've been able to find out, there is no apparent fix. Like you, I figured there must be some "adjustment" where you can calibrate the speedo. If it's there, I haven't found it yet. It really annoys me when the average Dodge Stratus has a more accurate speedometer than my 2002 525i. The error only affects the speedo. The odometer is not biased.

Thanx for the reply. I guess I'll just have to live with it. What's weird is that the OBD reads the speed correctly. I have my limit set at 80mph and it sounds the alarm at exactly 80mph at which time my speedo actually shows 85 already, that's why I thought that there might be a way to fix this problem.
If anybody else has any takes on this subject I will sure appreciate it.

You also correctly noticed that your average speed calculation and your speed alarm are correct. It's only the analog speedometer that's affected. I noticed the error when comparing it to my StreetPilot III.

If you ever discover a "fix", please send me the link.

Otherwise, just drive faster....!!
