Direct from Japan...

Ok, i'm new to these forums....anywho...I've been a fan of the skyline for some time now, and yesterday I just got home from my vacation in the cayman islands. There are many skylines there and it made me interested in bringing one to the states from japan. I looked on motorex to see their prices, and i was wondering if it would just be cheaper for me to buy a skyline in japan, and then have it shipped straight to motorex and have it legalized?

Re: Direct from Japan...

Probably not. Along with shipping, you'll have to pay for insurance and bonding. That's why most folks don't import on their own. Motorex takes care of all that stuff.

Re: Direct from Japan...

I'm not sure about that one. You'd have to contact them for the answer.

that doesn't mean you don't pay it...

they probably get better pricing, etc, but you're still paying that.

in the interviews that i've read/seen with motorex, they don't have a problem with you bringing one over and then helping you legalize...

i guess that's why they've got a contacts section on their site...
so you can go straight to the horse's mouth..

Yeah, I left out the part about paying for the bonding, etc. The thing is, I think you have to put up 150% of the car's value or something like that to bring it in. Not many people just have that kind of money lying around, even if you do get it back. Motorex takes care of that, for example.

While you can bring over a Skyline you picked out on your own, in most cases it's better just to get one that Motorex already has, or ask them to find one for you and import it.

The main reason is that unless :
1. You got an incredible deal on a Skyline in Japan,
Or...
2. You have already found/own a Skyline in Japan that has been modded to your tastes, and are reluctant to let it go.

Either way, it will probably cost more to import it yourself and then have Motorex legalize it than just buying one of their Skylines.
