Arrow is there a connection? start prob+abs light

i bought a 1999 chevrolet venture 2 years ago. it's a 6 cyl. automatic, power doors/windows. it was purchased at a dealership with 24,000 miles on it. after 6 months, the engine went out, sat at the dealership for six months till we came up the $2,400 to put in a used engine(with 10,000 less miles on it). it's been running good (for the past year)and i've been keeping up with maintence on it. about a month ago when i would start it, it would die the first time and stay started the second. a week ago the ABS light came on. 2 days ago the brake light also came on. then i went to the movies with my boys out in the middle of no where. came out and it wouldn't stay started. so i reved the gas and got it started it never died going home. the next morning i got it started and it stayed started, went to use it later and it wouldn't start at all. and this morning it wouldn't turn over at all. i put in a new battery a few weeks ago and it started up on the first try, but now it's not turning over. HELP!!! AMY@TECHSNS.COM

Re: is there a connection? start prob+abs light

There are several possibilities here, involving both systems. One is vehicle speed, which the ABS receives from the engine ECM. The other, and this may be the culprit here, is the charging voltage. Both computers require correct voltages, and will set codes for this in both systems. Ray

Re: is there a connection? start prob+abs light

thanks for a quick reply, ray! i figured out my fuel pump went out. the last time i drove the van, both the abs and brake lights were on and i had no problems with braking, although i think i'm leaking fluid out my rotor on the driver front. i checked the fluid and it's full. what do you think? thanks again! -amy

Re: is there a connection? start prob+abs light

for everyone who's interested! my problem is fixed! I was NOT the fuel pump. The grounding wire for the car was broke or cracked. When it was fixed my A.B.S. and brake lights went off! I would have never found that myself.
