Exclamation 1980s VETTES SUCK?

My dad owns a red 1986 corvette with 35k miles on it and great condition. He added a sick exhuast and some other things. He made like around 340 345 hp.... so its pretty decent for a vette... But lots of people tell me that the 80's vette was the worst decade for vettes... They say they suck ass and other things. But i think they were good. Do you think 80's corvettes were bad? ( like overall)

Re: 1980s VETTES SUCK?

I think they are plainly the ugliest of all model years. Plus one year they did have a problem w/ the 1983 and 1984. The 1983.. well.. it's non-existant. It didn't ever come out. It's introduction was delayed from sept 1982 until march 1983. By that time chevy realized they met the 1984 federal regulations, so decided instead of having 6 months for a model year, they would have a year and 6 for the 1984. Now on with the 1984. The suspension was so stiff that it registered a 1.01 on the skidpad according to a GM source, but it was largely in part from the suspension.. not the car as a whole. When a car such as the srt-10 viper is able to pull numbers over 1g it's not just from a firm suspension. The frame is stiffer, the tires wider, the center of gravity lower and more towards the center of the car. But the 1984's suspension was so stiff though that you would hit a bump around a corner and bounce. My father owned the first gen 1984 (before the 1984 and a half with more supple suspension came out) and he claims he was traveling at 60 or so onto an onramp and the onramp had a lip and when he hit that lip his car traveled sideways a good 6 - 12 inches because the suspension couldn't absorb the lip.

I would have to say that the 80's vettes aren't (now this is just to me) as good as the 50-present models... after they stopped makin the stingrays, i think they were kinda lost on what to do with the body style
My favorite vette from the 80's is the remake of the stingray they did in 82'...not as much power as the 70's models vettes but they sure could handle.

You've all seen the "Priceless" credit card commercials, right??? How's this one:

Funeral Costs to your parents: $7k
New Truck for your parents: $23k
Payments to the family you've torn apart: $136k
Killing yourself, a 26 year-old woman, and her 4 year old Daughter from Street Racing: Not worth it...

Funny? Didn't think so... Save racing for the track

Rest in Peace, Brandon: Fly on, Freebird!

I will agree with the early 80's were not all that. But the later in the 80's you get the better they get. I have had bolth a 73 & an 88. The 73 was fun and had more then enough power. Sure they looked cool but it didnt handle as good as it looked. Now the 88 was a dream on the road at any speed. Like driving on sticky paper @ 100. With enough power to back it up for it's looks. Sure you wont win alot of 1\4 runs with it. But you sure can smoke threw a 35 mph turn @ 60-65 without thinking twice Then run it back up to 100+ in no time.

The early 80's vette's are okay, the 88' - 95, i think are uglier. An 82' Stingray is still on my fave cars of all time.
