oh please help!!! 94 firebird wont start

ok here's the deal... i have a 94 firebird that wont start. I am getting spark to all cylinders and have recently replaced the distributor module that goes behind the water pump which my dad thought was broken but ended up being fine. I KNOW it is a fuel issue because A) when i shoot engine start fluid down the throttle body and turn the car over it starts and dies.
I have taken off the whole injector and fuel rail assembly and tried to start the car and found that the injectors weren't even firing. I know the fuel pump is pumping although i lack a fuel pressure guage to see how much pressure it is providing. My question is this.. could the culprit be the ECM? which in my experience is not the first place to go looking for a problem but thats the only other thing i can think of that would cause the actual injectors not to fire. Or are there any other factors that i am not considering. Anyone who can help me with this will be my hero! Another little tidbit of info. After the car has sat for a while it will fire up and die as if gas has leaked out of the injectors slowly over time or it could be the startup injector .. not sure but...
anyways

Re: oh please help!!! 94 firebird wont start

Hi, I am Ron from Sweden and i also have huge problems with my Pontiac.
I will try to write so you can understand my bad english.
Ok, Do you have a V6 or V8?
Becuase i don't rekognize that place of the ignitionmodul.
Do you have spark, are you sure the spark comes when it should?
About the fuel, you are sure that you get fuel to the injectors?
You can measurment the injectors.
If you have a digital volt and Ohm instrument, take away the contact to the injector.
Then measurement the injector itself and it very healthy one should show 16 ohm and its ok down to 8 - 10, but under 5 ohm then its something wrong.
You closer to 0 ohm you get worse it is.
Have you check the MAF sensor (i suggested you have that on 94).
Write your progress or symptom and we will try to figured out whats the problem.
My car is also a pain in the ass right now but you know... don't give up... Happy New Year... Ron22 Sweden

how can you be so sure that its the fuel pressure regulator? Isn't that just the screen infront of the fuel rail that filters everything out?

Re: oh please help!!! 94 firebird wont start

u need at least 40 psi of fuel to run mpi injectors so u need to find out if u have at least that much pressure at the service port on the fuel rail a weak fuel pump will spray gas but it may not go through the injector u can get a fuel gage from most part stores for 30 to 50 bucks if yer a do it your selfer it is a good investment

Well I always found that the simplest answer is usually the correct one, So if your car has pressure at the pump and when it sits or has fuel manually sent into it , it starts up , it can only be one of three things, 1. It can be a clogged fuel filter but it would have to be the worst I ever heard of the cause the car wont even start. 2. a Clog in a fuel line or rail . 3. Your injector's went bad (in which case you should buy a injecter cleaner the aerasol can that connect's to your rail and spray's the cleaner right in the injector's. Also you really need to invest the $20 into the fuel gauge it will be a big helps in finding the problem. GOOD LUCK

Re: oh please help!!! 94 firebird wont start

Had that happen to me too on my 1991. It wound up being a leaking fuel line. I had the injectors replaced and it did the trick... $1000 later. I had tha battery replaced thinking that was the problem, but we were always jumping the car because it only ran when it was actually running, if we turned it off, it wouldn't start again.

You need to check the cam position sensor and crank position sensors. Im not a specialist on these cars but generally of one goes out it wont give the siginal to fire the injectors.

While turning the key over, hold the pedal to the floor. (I'm not joking)
