2001 passat warped rotors

my wife has a 2001 passat gls 1.8t. There have been various problems with it, and it is gone come june, but I was wondering if this particular model year has any leanings that would suggest there is a defect in brake rotors. last service we had, the dealer told us all 4 were warped and would need replacement. this seems ridiculous, since the car only has 30,000 some odd miles on it. my wife does not kill the brake pedal, while driving. we decided that we were not about to shell out 600 bucks for new rotors on a leased vehicle. Was this dealer smoking crack when he suggested this is NORMAL wear? Discuss....

Just heard back from our "dealer" that our 2000 Pashit with 35,000 miles needs new rotors to do a brake job! The line they used was that the material the rotors are made of is "too thin" to turn as one would do on any other vehicle on the planet. I asked them to please do me a favor and not replace them with their inadequate factory parts as I would find stoutter aftermarket parts to make up for their crappy engineering. P.S. just had my 2003 dodge ram with 8,000 miles in to replace...you guessed it warped rotors!!!

I have a 2001 Passat GLX. While the car was still under warranty with about 12,000 miles on it, the wheels would vibrate noticeably when I applied the brakes at high speed. When I took the car in for its next warranty service I expected the dealer to claim brakes were normal wear-and-tear items and not covered by the warranty. To my surprise they replaced the front rotors with no charge. I didn't ask why they had been so "generous." Perhaps there was, in fact, a defect with the factory rotors in '01.

For what it's worth I don't have the vibration anymore, but the new rotors squeek like crazy.

Re: 2001 passat warped rotors

the main reason i will garentee is that the shop you took it in to tightened the calipers way to tight and cause your rotors to over heat even on normal driving conditions soo if oyu want to blame anyone blame the auto shop or dealer

Not sure that's the case. My car had been in for routine service only since I bought it. I don't believe they had any reason to be messing with the calipers. If someone caused that problem then it was the factory.
