What can i do to get rid of the govener on my Saturn?Georgc 12-26-2003, 11:49 AM Do i need a new computer or could i turn it off some how Alanna 12-26-2003, 12:00 PM The what? What is the governer? Please forgive me if this is a silly question but I have had a 95 SL2 for 5 years and have never heard of it. Georgc 12-26-2003, 05:38 PM I wont let me go over 100 MPH Alanna 12-27-2003, 12:57 PM I wont let me go over 100 MPH Really? Is it like the thing they came out with that if you are charged with dui you have to do a breathalyser (sp?) before you can drive? Or I just saw on the news that there are car dealers using a device that if you don't make the car payment it shuts down the vehicle? How did it get on your car?? I have an 95 SL2 and 100MPH isn't hard to do I would imagine I've gone over 100MPH, so I'm wondering where this governor came from? Georgc 12-27-2003, 06:10 PM it is in most new saturns from what i hear. Also It wont let me go over 4500 RPM on my Tacometer Wilson_Shaw 12-30-2003, 06:56 PM All SW's, SW1's, SL's, SL1's, and SC1's are limited to about 100 mph. All SL2's and SW2's are limited to about 110 mph. All SC2's are limited to 124 mph. (I am not sure about the governors on the L-series, the VUE, or the ION) I understand the reason behind this is the tire ratings. For example, the SC2's tires have an 'H' rating, meaning they can safely travel at speeds up to 130 mph. If they are going more than 130 mph, there is a risk that they might explode due to the increased centrifugal force. If you have a domestic car - obviously you do because you own a Saturn - with an OBDII system in it (model years 1996 & up) than I believe you can buy a product that you can plug into your vehicle to adjust some of the vehicle's settings (fuel mixture, shift points, TOP SPEED, etc.). Just do a search on your web browser for OBDII, or OBD2. Georgc 12-31-2003, 09:05 AM thats gonna cost me alot of money. I searched and all i could find were programs that read the information. nothing on changing it saturnxsc2 01-06-2004, 11:26 PM All SW's, SW1's, SL's, SL1's, and SC1's are limited to about 100 mph. Moriar 01-09-2004, 12:40 AM i have a 99 sc2 automatic and ive gotten it up to 130 on a flat surface, and i havent had any problems, but there is a rev limit tho in nuetral i cant go past 4000 rpm, but once i put it into gear i can red line the entire time PowerStroke 01-17-2004, 04:00 PM yep 110 on mine. It is a 1997 Twink Am. I bought it off my buddy who would get frustrated when I would blow him away and get to about 125plus in my TDI jetta. I got this thing for a steal and love it. My son just brought it home with oil and water dripping out the bottom. I have driven it 10000 miles, he has driven it 30. Head Gasket? Bad Thermostat? Kids doin baja jumps in dads car? Wilson_Shaw 01-20-2004, 03:27 PM I apologize for misleading you, but as of yet there is nothing on the market to disable the speed governor on a saturn. I've seen products being sold that will disable the speed governor on Civics, Camaros, Mustangs, and several other cars, but not Saturns (I couldn't find any, anyway). However, I have heard of Saturn owners being able to somehow hack into the PCM and disable it that way. The only other way would be to install a stand alone fuel system, but that would cost big bucks. As to the oil & water dripping out the bottom: The first thing I would check would be the head gasket (usually the main culprit in S-series cars leaking oil). But oil and water? Also, earlier SL2's that came from the factory with H-rated tires had a top speed of 124mph. PowerStroke 01-27-2004, 07:30 PM I will open a new problem on leakage . sorry to interfere here.. Thanks Wilson..JR smoka_9 02-08-2004, 06:36 PM www.saturnspeed.com go to the message forum and under the heading Technical I believe the section is called Hacks, Tweeks and Workarounds there is a guy on there that takes your Eeprom chip and reprograms the fuel cutoff and rev limiter to your specs. WildsideCreations 03-14-2004, 02:50 PM I have a 97' SW2. The speed limiter is 113mph technicaly. However the car itself will obviously go faster if heading downhill. The rev limiter only limits in Park and Neutral. I belive the manual does not limit rev. stick99 05-04-2004, 02:34 AM On my Saturn Ion, I have no rev limiter. It only limited me to 4000 for the first 50 miles after I got the car, but after that, i can take it to the red line. The governer on my car doesn't let me go over about 111 mph. I haven't done any mods to it, but b/c it is manual and the gear ratio is good, the car is quite zippy. I just wish it had better tires and rear-wheel drive. Lucas1 06-22-2004, 07:21 PM those devises are there for a reason, TO KEEP YOU FROM BLOWING UP YOUR MOTOR! on an SL2 at 124MPH in 5th gear you RPMs are over 5000. you should not drive at that high of RPM for any length of time. why the hell do you need to go that fast anyway. if you want to drive 120+ go buy a sports car, not a saturn. skater04049 10-28-2004, 12:38 PM The Saturn SC2 does not max out at 124 its top speed is 145 I got my saturn sc2 to that speed racing STOCK sierrap615 10-28-2004, 12:58 PM every now and then you may find one PCM where the limiter is not set where it should be, somewhere during the programming the computer "forgets" to flash the data. you should not beable to go that fast, the stock powertrain isn't that strong. do me a favor, for you and your car's sake, try to keep it below 124. normally it is 124 for the SC@ Dank One 11-09-2004, 05:08 PM I have a 97 Saturn SL-2, i have the speed limiter problem, no rev limiter, its manual, lookin for an easy and cheap way to go faster than 107 mph so i can keep up with my bud's del sol, i've got him up to 107 then he pulls away and i start goin back down haha. Saturnspeed.com is a good resource, i just couldn't find anything last time i looked. On another note, if anyone wants a good race sometime and is in the Lehigh Valley, Eastern PA, let me know slkicker 12-17-2004, 02:00 PM my 96 sl1 's govenor is at 108 every day my governor reminds me that i need to slow down! carguy83 01-04-2005, 08:19 AM well. my 95 sl2 has been pinned at 130 and has probably gone faster... i've never heard of a govenor being on my car... what strange vehicle would tell me to slow down. thats what the cops are for... So unless you have it removed or altered by a tech. I don't see how you accomplished 130mph. At 6800rpm in final gear, your rpms will drop and you won't have the power to push anymore until it kicks back in until about 98mph! sickcallawayc12 02-20-2005, 02:53 PM Maybe if you jacked the front wheels of the ground?
