Good Morning,

Any help that can be provided would be appreciated.

2003 TB Extended
Inline 6 engine - Vortec 4200
Less than 12,000 miles

1. My truck is dripping oil and has for over a month. At first it was just a drop or two, but now, it is enough that I have put cardboard down to monitor my losses each night. It is not just a few drops. How normal is this? It took 6 years for my last Blazer to start leaking. My feeling is I should not be seeing this on such a new vehicle.

2. In monitoring the above situation, I also have seen red drops twice in the last week 2-3 drops each time. I take these to be transmission fluid. How alarmed should be by this?

3. In addition, my engine has been making a clicking sound when it warms up after starting. It is not loud, but it is very noticable.

4. My brakes are squealing.

5. Last, but not least, last Thursday, I started my truck, and as soon as it started, it made an audible "whap" from the engine. This caused the radio to reset itself to 12:00, change from radio to CD mode, and start playing when it was not "on" when the truck was started.

Am I alone with this issues? Any help would be appreciated. My truck goes into the dealer to look at these problems on Monday. My feeling was that for the money I spent, that these type of problems would not spring up in the first year of use.

Dealer Time. I just bought my 2003 LTZ and hearing of these problems cause me to worry. I had a small leak at 9k but it stopped. A new engine should have "No Leaks" . The red stuff could be the trans or transfer case if you have 4wd. As for the brakes, have you had the tires rotated? Many times the techs will reinstall the lug nuts with an air tool with way too much torque and cause the rotors to warp. This can cause a sqeaul or pulsing. Should be torqued manually or with a torque stick to approx. 100 lb./ft. The radio problem sounds as if there was an interruption of power from the battery. Kind of like when the power at home blinks and you have to reset all the clocks. I know my 6 disc bose started acting up recently when a lot of the local stations started broadcasting song/artist info. I had two stations that would switch between each other at random times. Even if you manually tuned or used a preset it would alternate. This week it magically stopped. I am not so sure about the electrical system, it seems mighty complicated and everything is dependent on a computer, Scary.

The tires were rotated as 6000. Brakes started making noise at 11,000.

Esox why are you waiting so long to take your new TB in if it is leaking oil? As for my 2003 TB you can see my post "I have a ticking sound." You should look into the Lemon Law for your state! That is what I have done. I have had multiple problems: fourwheel drive light coming on 3 times, two times for the service engine light coming on, it was leaking oil from a left front deferential seal, so they replaced the seal, my brakes do sqeek at times and as for the "ticking sound" I have that issue too and the Dealer said it was normal. I have gotten so fed up that I have researched and found a lawyer that will reprent me FREE of charge. I am filing a SUITE against GM for either a repurchase on the TB or an extended warranty plus some money back on the vehicle. By law GM has to do something if you have enough problems and the Lemon Law for your state also plays a role in the situtation that you are in. I would look into getting one if you are having all these issues. Hope you can get it all worked out!!!

Hi Bowforthedog,

The oil dripping was a drop here and a drop there until lately. I suppose just did not want to think a new engine would have such problems. The red drops, I have only seen twice. The clicking noise just started. It was a little tough to catch, as it takes about 3-4 minutes after start up before it starts clicking. My brakes like yours, are hit and miss. Into the dealer tomorrow, so I will see how things go. Hopefully, MN lemon law will not be needed.
