91 Celica Gts 5s-fe timing belt

I have a 91 Gts and need to replace the timing belt.Has anyone here done this before?I have a Haynes book and it says you can change it from the side thru the fender.I went and looked and the fender skirt beside the engine is solid and I see no way to access thru it? Does the motor have to be lifted out to change the belt? Anyone know?

Re: 91 Celica Gts 5s-fe timing belt

The easiest way is to place a jack to support the engine. Remove the side engine mount near the timing belt. Now, jack eninge up or down to access the area better.

If you haven't done this, I recommend taking it to a Toyota garage. They usually have a good deal on things like this. I believe I paid $130 for this job, 3 years ago.

Good Luck
