Question Idle Problem

Hi, I would appreciate any suggestions to a little problem that I am experiencing with my Trailblazer.

I have a 2002, LT, 2 WD, Trailblazer. On a cold start, the engine starts without any problems. When I reach to my first stop sign or stop signal (less than one mile in distance) that last longer than 1 minute, my Trailblazer starts to shake and then dies. I think there is a problem when the Trailblazer idels? If I tap on the gas when the Trailblazer starts to shake, I can avoid the restart.

I replaced the fuel filter last week but problem still persists. I moved to 93 Octane and problem does not go away.

I have not changed my air filter. Should I do this?
Should I put some STP fuel injector cleaner?

Thank you for your time and help. Any ideas would help greatly.

Post I have the same Idle Problem

I have the same problem with my 2002 Trailblazer. About a half mile from home I get into the left turn lane and wait for an opportunity to cross the highway. It doesn't happen all of the time, and it seems like it just started this fall, but the engine will run rough for two or three seconds then smooth out. Never happens again during the day.

The Fix

Hi Redister,
This is what I did and now the problem does not occur.
1. Change out the fuel filter
2. Buy a new Air Filter (I purchased a K&N filter off the internet for $53)
3. Dropped fuel octaine to 87

Works wonders and no problems so far.

Good Luck

Thanks,

I always used regular gas. I'll try the filters. Did the air filter indicator show the filter needed changing or did you just change it?

Air Indicator OK

For the air indicator, it was showing green = OK. I decided to change it out and see if that made the difference. So far all is ok.

Good Luck!

Re: Idle Problem

A friend's TB did this but not as bad (the engine didn't actually die). The dealers had to clean the injectors. A can of STP Fuel Injector cleaner at evrey oil change can go a long way. I use it religiously...

Re: Idle Problem

The pcm needs to be reprogrammed by the dealer or an ACDelco shop that has reprogramming tools. They changed when the evap system purges to keep from stalling the engine.

Re: Idle Problem

It's either the ECU or your gas type.
I'd go with "Jatin" and try lower octaine fuel.

Re: Idle Problem

My 2002 TB has a rough idle for about 20-30 seconds when it is first started in the morning. When the engine is at normal operating temp. It wants to stall when you accelerate from a complete stop. Change air filter at every other oil change and change fuel filter once/year. Have taken it to two different dealers 5 times with no fix. The computer was reprogrammed and the throttle body was cleaned. Problem is still there.
