Help with new RX8 getting a remanufactured engine
I bot my 8 on 11.10.03 and first week started to see green guey stuff on garage floor. Called the dealer they said its just overflow from coolant resivior. So didnt think much of it then, until 2 weeks later more green stuff was on floor, called the service guy and he said first few weeks this could happen may be the coolant was overfilled and in a few days if it keeps up bring it in. Then last week coolant light came on. Took the car in and they added fluid, they said it was low. Told me to bring it back 3 days later for service. Took it in on Tuesday and they called me later that day and said it needed an engine replacement because it was leaking from the 2nd rotor and engine housing or something like that. I only have 1200 exact miles on it and I can't believe this is happening to me. No mods or nada that I did to the car, I dont even drive it hard, I bought it cuz I loved how it looks. I asked the dealer if I can just get into a new 8, I didnt pay 35k for a new RX8 body with a remanufactured engine. They told me they cant get me a new engine and there is no way I they will get me into a new RX8. This is the best they can do for me. Dealer is Lithia Mazda in Fresno, CA. This is so unfair, I dont have any ideas on what to do or what I can do. Please any help or advice would be great right now before they finish with my car. The only way I would be satisfied is to get me into a new 8 or put a new engine in my car. I am suspecting that the dealer knew of the leak and still sold me the car anyways. Thats why they kept telling me its just the coolant overflow until a few weeks later. I shouldnt have to pay such a price for a broken car from the beginning. Please help if anyone here can.

Re: Help with new RX8 getting a remanufactured engine
If it only has 1200 miles on it, I'd demand a new car... You should get ahold of the local mazda rep.
BTW, "bot" is spelled bought and "guey" is gooey...

That's an UGLY car!!! Why do you continue to put that pic of it up here? Hey GUY I am just joking...your car is cool. But you got to admit...the RX-8 is "pretty" like Muhammad Ali used to say.

Make ME wonder. I bought my RX-8 at Lithia in Fresno. But knock on woodgrain I haven't had ANY problems with my RX-8. That's too bad for your car...I would think you should get a WHOLE new car if they can't get you an engine???

Its in my signature. If you dont like it too bad. And my car is cool, WAY faster than your RX-8, and AWD. I admit the RX-8 is a beautiful car, I had a deposit on one for over a year, but got sick of waiting for it to come out so I bought the WRX. And I'm not a "GUY".

VTLC; Sorry to hear about your engine problem.
I know where you are coming from. A few years ago I purchased a new Dodge ram, after about 1500 miles, and 5 trips to the dealer. They told me that to fix a problem with the heater not working properly that they were going to have to replace the engine. something to do with the water passages in the block. Anyway after much shouting and screaming, at every one from Chrysler to the dealer, They got me another truck. I had to pay about $600 for the milage deduction on the old truck, but at least I got a new truck, and not a new truck with a replacement engine...... Don't give up!

Re: Help with new RX8 getting a remanufactured engine
Perhaps a remanufacutred engine is the better route.. more likely than not, they'll have fixed whatever went wrong with the current engine, and modified it so it won't happen again. Here's to hoping.

So what exactly is properly testing an engine? They've been testing it since 1995...
