Crankshaft pulleysupraman_2 12-21-2003, 01:52 AM I was wondering if anyone had an good way to get the crankshaft pulley loose. I am transferring my parts to a new engine and wanted to know what would be the best way to break the screw loose. I have the engine out of the car at the moment. projectsupramk3 12-21-2003, 11:41 AM A air gun is of coarse the best way, that bolt should be torqued to 195ft lbs so it's not coming off by hand. Don't forget to soak it in penetrating oil every few minutes, should help some. carguyinok 12-21-2003, 12:01 PM #1 USE CARE. Thats not just a pully it's also your balancer and there not cheap. Find a way to lock it in place. Some people will put things in the cam gear for this. That is putting your cam gears at risk for bending or cracking but it's the way most do it. After you have locked the motor so it cant turn over. Then you can get it free with a long breaker bar. If the breaker bar isnt long enough slide a pipe over it. After the nut or bolt is off use a gear puller to pop the pully\balancer. The pully balancer is 2 parts with rubber holding them togather. So prying it off can damage it real fast. supraman_2 12-21-2003, 02:42 PM So if I was to use and air gun what would you reccomend I use and where to get it. As for the breaker bar when I try to turn it with my bar, which is about a 3/4 the engine doesn't engine turn over so i'm not sure if it's not enough pressure or if it's just not moving.
