2000 Dakota fan blade questionrdsaylr 12-18-2003, 08:20 PM Hello....I noticed on my 2000 Dakota that there is considerable play in the fan blade. I can move it front to back probably 1 inch. Is this normal? Should the fan have any front to back play in it? If not...what could be wrong? Do they have bearings inside the fan blade? :banghead: Fmxo1 03-14-2004, 11:29 AM Hello....I noticed on my 2000 Dakota that there is considerable play in the fan blade. Do they have bearings inside the fan blade? :banghead: no its not normal that means that ur fan clutch is shot and needs to be replaced mine had the same problem twice (does it make a pinging noise when the fans movin cuz thats the fan blade hitting your pullys) if the fan blade is bent replace that along wtih the fan clutch itself, the threads on the big nut are reversed i believe i had a bitch of a time gettin it off but leverage is your friend in this case (check a book and double check abut the threading cuz im not sure. hope this helps but a new fan should have some resistance in the spin and when it is first replaced for like a thousand miles itll make a humming noise until it starts cuz the fluid in the clutch mechanism needs to be like circulated or somethin but that noise will be normal. highrisk 03-24-2004, 04:06 PM Another noise to listen for is a loud howl that tends to go up and down with the idle, but it will lag abit. You will know the noise when you hear it. thimbuk2 08-29-2004, 11:54 AM I have noticed a low pitch whistling sound on my 99 5.2. I tried to use a stethscope on all the components driven by the serpentine belt, can't figure it out. Still, there is this irritating whistling that makes me wanna gouge my a out with a screwdriver. I was reading out of the Haynes that when the engine is cool, the fans should rotate freely. And when the engine is warm they should drag slightly. Anyone else have some thoughts on this? tans 09-02-2004, 09:41 PM Hey guy's I got rid of my stock fan and got a electric 16". No more unusaul noices and more PONY'S :) Davejb 09-15-2004, 10:25 AM I got rid of the clutch fan and am using the stock electric fan only, no problems or overheating even with AC running. cmay 09-23-2004, 11:23 AM if the fan blade is bent replace that along wtih the fan clutch itself, the threads on the big nut are reversed i believe i had a bitch of a time gettin it off but leverage is your friend in this case (check a book and double check abut the threading cuz im not sure.) Does that big nut hold the whole fan assemby (Fan blades, clutch and waterpump pulley) in place on the engine, or is that big nut just for the clutch?
