hey i have an 87 cutlass ciera 2.8L with AC. the AC clutch was starting to go bad, making a grinding noise, i was waiting till i got paid to get it fixed. well last night i went to start it on my way to work and it wouldnt start. the cluth is locked up. the clutch & compressor is $190 at autozone. i dont wanna really put that much into the car, plus i cant afford it this week. i called junkyards, talked to the people at autzone, everything. guy at the junkyard said that model didnt come withOUT AC. the guy at autozone said some did, but they didnt have another pulley in place of the AC compressor. he said they just re-routed the belt. how did they do that? if i get a smaller belt it wont turn the water pump. if they did re-route it, can anybody tell me how they did it, or any ideas on another pulley in place of the AC compressor/clutch? thanks for any help. Mike

Did you ever resolve this?

You can put an idler pulley on the block and use a NO A/C belt, completely bypassing the A/C compressor without having to touch it.
