clicking in dash sound

what is this clicking in the dash? it seems to follow the changes in rpms. someone told me it was the tach cable needing grease but another told me they dont even have a tach cable on burbans anymore that it is all electronic.. either way its giving me a headache

You didn't include your model year in your posting, so this information might be useless to you.
I've got an 86, no tach, but over the years there have been several times when the speedometer cable clicked just as you describe. If the clicking is really following speed changes rather than rpm changes then there might be simple fix. On an old one like mine you can reach up under the instrument cluster, press the retaining clip and disconnect the cable from the back of the speedometer. I move the cable to a point where I can get some lubricant into it and that usually stops the clicking for several ten-thousand miles. Good luck.
