valve cover gasket replacement/motor mounts

is there anything i need to know before i pull the cover to replace the leaky gasket? does it need any sealant of any kind? of course i need to clean all surfaces but i's hate to get it off and see i need sealant .

the passenger side mount is cracked across and needs to be replaced and i am wondering if it is best to replace both. what is involved in shop time as i think this is one for the shop? just supporting the motor(4l v6 auto 2wd) to do one side i was quoted 85.labor plus part 430. but of course it is available at kragen for 27..

thanks for any input..

Re: valve cover gasket replacement/motor mounts

The valve cover gasket is usually held in place with so RTV sealent so you should get some of that and the engine mounts are easy to replace with a floor jack. Just do one side at a time and take your time as its only 3 bolts that hold the mount on. 2 on the bottom and the main bolt through the center. Easy job compared to other things

Re: valve cover gasket replacement/motor mounts

thanks. on the sealant should it be applied to the head then place gasket down then more sealant then the cover? and the breather hose closet to the rad is loose and the corner parts store(kragen) said it was a stealer part. seepage there as well as dirt entry point.

on the mounts i just dont know the vehicle well enough yet (had it a week) to be jacking up the engine(waiting for service manual on cd) i need to drive it and have about 40 miles sincei discovered the crack in the rubber. so it is no more thjan one hour of shop time at the most closer to 45 minutes. thanks
