can somone tell me how to get rid of the top speed governer for my (97) pontiac grand prix, iv don way to manny mods to list(it's fast as hell) but i cant go over 115,or wher ever it is, (but rice burners can).
and yes I have a reprogramed pcm (DHP) even tried two diferent pcm's to make shure it wasent bad. crank sensor relearn dosent make a diference either(people at DHP)!
It seems that 97's are the only GP's that dont respond tho the pcm speed cut out eliminator so I want to do It manually. If anny has had same problem let me know, of if you can solve my problem you have my respect. Goldschlage@aol.com

That is funny, I got rid of the speed limit with the ECU(PCM) reprogrammed. Check because even tought they reprogrammed yours they must explicitly get rid of the top speed. I have been able to push my GTP all the way up 138mph racing a Cayenne S. And not many mods but sure I changed the ECU(PCM) programming to get rid of the speed ceiling.

Are you 100% SURE it's a DHP PCM? If so, then email them and ask them what the deal is. I know the guys at DHP, they should be able to help you.

As far as removing it manually..there is no way to do that. There is no mechanical part that limits speed.

i know a kid that has a 97 gtp. it used to be an undercover car. it is all stock, except for the police interceptor chip in it. he hit 163mph. i've got that crazy speed limiter too, and can only go 126mph.

where can you take the car to get it reprogrammed and how much does it cost?

:eek7: ...www.digitalhorsepowerinc.com or you can buy one of their PCMs from www.3800performance.com

If you want to have one of them reprogram it in person, you better be ready to drive to Chicago or Detroit, or pay them to come to you.

Just so you know, DHPv2 will be out this spring...and it comes with a few improvements. I'd wait till then..but that's just me.

There are other PCMs out there that you can buy (C-YA Racing, GPS), but if I remember correctly, they just ripped DHP's code and made a couple changes. That's why one of the new features of DHPv2 will keep people from stealing the modifications they made.

Also be aware that when you have the PCM reprogrammed, you HAVE TO run premium unleaded gasoline.

Rom,

I dont think your right about any of that. First off, GPS was out before DHP existed so how did they steal DHP code.

From what I understand about the CYA PCM he has partnered with a retired GM employee that use to write the code for GM. I dont think CYA needs to copy anything

BTW, I own both PCMs and you cant go wrong with either one.

Well mine was done by a guy that knows about this thinnhs on the local GM Dealer. The usual cost of PCM reprogramming is between 250 and 400 bucks. Depending on the mods they perform on it

I'm just going off of what I gathered from past posts that I read at www.clubgp.com

I do not know the changes that have been made yet. I only know the few snippits of info that Charles from DHP posted in a thread on Club-GP.

He's claiming it will be done by spring. I hope it is...I'm gonna need mine dyno-tuned. :naughty:

how do you guys read your codes. don't you take it to like autozone to have them read it. can't you reprogram the speed limiter with the same computer that they use there?

No..that's a code scanner, not a programming device.

DHP V2 will require more mods then the current V1

It will offer updated codes as well as a Flash Gaurd so the dealership cannot accedentaly reflash your computer....It should be good for those with more mods!

The people I know that have the programming device is GM Authorized dealers.
I saw a MAC Scanner that has the programming function but on my area only one garage has it and charges almost the same price as the GM Dealer to reprogram PCM's
I just forgot the Gizmo name, I even helped the guy buy it at EBay. IT cost him 1500 dollars.

I have 97 also.... when my car was stock I could hit 127 but once it hit 128 it would cut out....fyi. Now I have mods and it gets there a lot faster but still cuts out at 128. When it shifts into over drive Ive noticed the boost pressure goes to half boost.(12 to 6 psi :dunno: )Are you also having that probelm? Anyone with Stock PCM. just to make sure that will get rid of that problem if i were to get a new PCM (aftermarket). but yeah i was told to buy the digital PCM It was the best all around.

I have a aftermarket PCM and have been able to pump it up to 138. If you have a stock PCM i would think that instead of reaching 129 you would reach 115 instead.

Not really aftermarket but reprogrammed.
