hi all does anyone know how to remove the lens covers for a 90 grand prix? i was told that you could put the lenses in the dishwasher to clean them but i have no idea of how to remove them. Yes they are really dirty.

No...you can't remove the lenses. Well you COULD, but they would be a paint to put back together....and they would never be sealed as well as they are right now.

What do you mean they're dirty? Are they the plastic lenses? If so, are they just hazed over with a yellowish tint? If so, you can try cleaning them with some brake fluid. That takes the haze off. Either that..or replace the lenses. Water isn't going to take that crap off.

thanx for the info.I'll try the brake fluid to see if that helps if not i'll have to go get new lenses. yes they are the plastic lenses and they are really hazy. Just didn't want to go get new lenses if i didn't need them. I'll let you know how they turn out. Once again thanx!

Let me tell you something. If you get 1000 grit sand paper, white rubbing compounf and a rotary buffer after the break fluid you can sand it and the buff it and they will look like new. That is what I did to my 93 Z-34

Should be no need for sanding after the brake fluid. They should be pretty clear.

I hate the plastic lenses that the 90 GPs came with. That's why I've replaced all of mine with glass capsules from the 88-89 models. Much better! :naughty:

now thats a difference you can really see. the brake fluid worked like a charm cleaned em right up. I found that after they dried and a short drive across town that i found a couple of spots that needed a little elbow grease but it came completely out. Once again thanx for the tip! as for the glass lenses-those will replace the plastic ones with out any hassle as to fitting?

Well, in my case after the break fluid the buffing and the sand paper make them look like glass. When you shine and buff your car this will give them a great finish. What ROM says is functional, what I sais is detailing

Correct..the glass ones are direct replacements. They won't turn yellow, but you do have to repaint the black trim on the edge of the capsule every few years. Paint doesn't stick to glass very well. :disappoin

Rom, Glass capsules are available up to what year model?

88-90 coupes, and 90-96 sedans

They were stock equipment on 88, 89, and EARLY 90 models. My first 90 LE had them. My second one does not, nor does my TGP.

I believe GM still sells them. I have a part number, but have yet to try ordering any. I will hopefully be trying soon though, as I want a set for my TGP.

well been a couple of weeks now and i'm definately impressed. the lenses have made it through three rain storms and two snow storms and they are holding up nicely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanx rom. will not have to replace lenses just yet, and looking to purchase a 92 grand prix with the ground effects for $3400 does that sound good? for 90,000 miles i think so. It is white with white interior and in great shape no body damage runs perfect. Now i can paint my original grand prix and work on it!!!
