1999 Golf GTi VR6transamdude95 12-07-2003, 01:35 AM I was thinking about selling/trading in my T/A for 99 Golf GTi VR6 with a 5 spd. tranny and 44k miles. The dealership is asking $10,950 for it. What do you guys think of this deal? Also, what are the differences between the 99 1/2's and the 99's? Also, what are the Golf GTI VR6 III's and IV's? Bear in mind that I know hardly anything about VW and their cars. Is there a lot of aftermarket support for the VR6's? I'm guessing that it has the 2.8L V6 in it, but I'm not sure. Could it have come with another engine from the factory or do all of the 99 VR6's have 2.8L's? Thanks to those of you who help me out with this. I will really appreciate it. Hopefully I will soon own this car :) Steve transamdude95 12-10-2003, 09:05 PM ....nobody can help me out here? transamdude95 12-11-2003, 12:16 AM Here's a link to the car. BTW, is this car the version 4 or 3? http://www.fritzinfishers.com/details.asp?StockNum=590 RACER D12 12-11-2003, 07:36 PM sounds like a good deal to me ImportRev4 12-22-2003, 06:37 PM i think it sounds like a pretty good deal also and im pretty sure that all the vr6's come with the 2.8l engine but sorry i cant really help with anything else i dont know alot about the vr6's 1 PRODIGY 12-30-2003, 02:10 AM u got a 4th generation VR6. and yea thas a decent deal. the MK3 is ang vw from 93 - 98 the MK4 is from 99 - now and yea theyre alot of aftermarket parts for the VR6, more favoring the MK3. yea the VR6 is a 2.8L v6.. i would suggest if ur goin to buy a pretty new VR6.. throw a couple more thousand and buy the 30V VR6. ( thats 30 valves compared to the earlier 8 valves ) i belive its the 2002 or 03 vr6 tha started gettin these engines. i could be wrong. GTI20thAEinDE 01-16-2004, 10:53 PM 99 VR6 is a 8v 2.8L. There is decent aftermarket support for this engine. To get real power out of it, you'll need a turbo or supercharger kit which can get pretty costly. If you get a 99 1.8T, you can boost the horses up from 150 to 215 with a chip from upsolute, apr, revo, or giac. There are also a lot more upgrades available for the 1.8T engine that won't cost as much as the VR6 turbo/super kit. vr64life 01-17-2004, 12:47 PM im a proud owner of the 1999 mk4 gti vr6, just to settle everything the 1999 is 12v 2.8 and yes if you chip any turbo car its gonna get like 20 or 30 hp ambey but my vr6 is chipped by a giac mapped ecu wich was first aftermarket product and when i bought it it wasnt mapped for any thing 4,000 dollars later it had to be mapped or my car wouldnt even run all that ihave to say to any vr6 lover drop some shcrick 268's under the hood and you will be taken m 3's to dinner vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
