88 ranger hard starting after rain

Hello,
My wife's 88 ranger v6 is real hard to start on rainy mornings,
or even just damp mornings. It has to be cranked for way too
long to fire up on those days and today would not start at all.
It runs good, and normally starts right up with very little
cranking needed. I've changed the dist cap and wires, still
hates the rain, any ideas on what I could do to fix this would
be appreciated.

You might be suffering from condensation in your gas tank. Maybe some dry gas on your next fill up can solve the problem. Just in case, that is when you have water in the gas tank. The dry gas will help out. If the problem persists, let us know and we can try something else.

Interesting.

Another possible problem(with the age of the vehicle), is moisture getting in a relay. EEC or Fuel pump relays.

Thanks, the relays getting wet are a possibility as well, it just happens on wet days. Would water in the gastank cause problems only on wet days, or would it be a constant problem? Put in a can of gas treatment, and waiting for next wet morning. Thanks for the replies.

-also could be your fuel pump. they have a check valve in them to hold fuel pressure in the lines so that when you try to crank it the system is already pressurized. when the valve goes bad, it allows the fuel to drain back to the tank, so when you try to start it, it has to crank for a bit in order to bring the fuel back up to the engine, or you could just cycle the key 3-4 times before starting....
