Need help timing a '93 22RE

Want to adjust the timing on my '93 22RE. Do I just loosen the distributor and go at it or do I need to unplug a wire before doing so?
Help and thanks

Are you adusting it by ear or with a light? If by ear, just loosen the bolt on the distributor and rotate back and forth 'till it sounds good. If using a light, you need to short the 2 wires (forget what they're called) before using the light. There's a plastic (yellow on mine) connector over by the power steering res., possibly plugged into a rubber retainer on the inner fender. short the 2 contacts to prevent the computer from advancing timing at idle, and set timing according to the sticker on the hood.

The connections you neen to short are TE1 and E1, then set the timing to 5 degrees BTDC.
