Unhappy 2001 Taurus briefly fails to start

Hello,

My 2001 Taurus has begun to give me periodic fits starting in the mornings. I put the key in and turn the ignition and...nothing. All of the lights come on, radio, gauges, etc but it doesn't start. I take the key out, put it in and try again...nothing. Make sure it is in park (which it is) and try again. After a few times it starts. Today it stalled as I was slowing down in traffic but easily started right back up. I am not sure if this is some type of electrical/security ignition problem. I get no warning indicators/check engine lights. Is this something a dealer could detect thourgh a diagnostic test?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 2001 Taurus briefly fails to start

Someone suggested taht it could be the altenator because it is not cranking over...after a few minutes of trying it cranks over ans starts? Any thoughts?

Re: 2001 Taurus briefly fails to start

You mean you turn the key and the starter doesn't spin?

Very common in lots of cars, Could be the Starter solinoid, starter relay, nuetral saftey switch, ignition switch, brake switch, bad ground on starter - Just to name a few off the top 'o my head ...

Your best bet is to get a mitchell manual or someone with alldata to print you out a flowchart on diagonistic for a 'non starter turn'
but since it's an intermittent problem all the more fun for you....
