Replacing Battery Cable On A 1998 Dodge Caravan

We had to replace the battery on our 1998 Dodge Caravan, the mechanic that replaced it said that the positive battery cable needed to be replaced. How hard is it to replace the battery cable? what do we have to do. (the only reason battery was replaced by a mechanic, was I was out of town and my battery died.) We called our local dealer, and they told us that we would have to replace the whole battery cable harness, and it would cost around $2,ooo.oo to do this plus labor. My husband and I would realy like to do this ourselves, so how do you do it, how hard is it to do? And do you really have to change the whole battery cable harness to just replace a bad positive battery cable??

You should be able to pick up a positive cable replacement kit from any reputable auto parts store. Even though the cable is part of the harness, you do not have to replace the whole harness. At the minivan plant we simply splice a new end on the cable and that's it.
