Camaro Z28

Alright, this is the rumor i've heard, that the z28's even though they had a 302 engine, they were still "scream like hell" fast, due to the ability to rev up to 8000 rpm's (w/o damage) and the engine was lighter, i would just like to verify this info. CAMARO'S ALL THE WAY

But its so very true.

Had a buddy that had a DZ 302 major work done was. could rev to 10,000 no prob.

thing was gutless on the launch but when it hit 3000 rpm look the f**k out. it was taking your lunch money.

Yes, the 302's in the Z28s were extremely high reving. In fact, a bit too much, for everyday driving.

Yea, the person who had one was a supposed huge racer, who would use a car like that for every day driving anyways? and, my dream car has been selected i believe, 68 if I can find one, but probly 69 z28 68 are impossible to find almost, so i'll go for the 69

Yea 68 Z28's are hard to find but the 69 looks better anyway. I have a 69 camaro (non Z28 unfortunately) but a kid that parked next to me at my highschool had a 68 blue z28 that he and his dad restored. The dz302 is a really neat engine as far as road/track racing goes but not for drag as much and definitely not for around town alot.

I have a 302 with a set of Dart Pro 1's . In my 69 camaro with 4:11 gears runs 12;20's all day. Shift at 8200 RPM's The key to the highwinding 302 is to junk the stock 186 heads and put some 220 cc heads on it with no less than 11 to 1 comp..

Yep, the Z28 302 definitely was a high reving engine - long before the Japanese started building their performance engines that way.

ok u guys had to bring it up, out of all cars the 69 z28 is my all time fav. i have done more research on that car than any other so here is the scoop...

the Z28 was chevys special package for camaros in 67 so they could race in the trans am series. but they under rated it for insurrance purposes. they wanted a car that could be driven by any good old joe and kick some serious ass on the 1/4 mile. now what chevy did was look at the all time favored 327 and the high reving 289 and kinda mixed them. most 327's came with a 2 bolt main so they made a 327 block(4.00 bore)and gave it a 4 bolt main. then they grabbed a 289 crank and rods(3.00 stroke) and made them forged and obviously upped the compression to 10.5:1, keep in mind this is all in 67. there was a lot more done here but ill spare u. chevy put the car out rating it at an expected 280 ponies, when they got to the races surprisingly the camaro took the lead in every race pumpin out almost 400 horses and 400+ lbs. of torque. now yes u are all right this IS thanks to the reving power of that 3 inch stroke, but the hp comes from the 4 inch piston, that thing took a lickin and kept on tickin. in 69 they werent happy with their #'s anymore since everyone else was catchin on to their little secret. so they gave it better heads and an 11:1 comp ratio and a couple little extra goodies and im not sure but i think they gave it the all-time fav M-22, AKA the rockcrusher, to handle all that power. this year it pushed out over 450 hp and 450 lbs of torque, again chevy took the lead with their Z28, now what happened in 1970? no one knows i think the creator of the camaro was shot or somethin... cuz after that the camaro went right down the shitter.

hahaha ya i own a 69 camaro that im gonna clone into a tricked out Z28. So of course i need ta know these things...lol but seriously this car is the one i know the most about, i dont know much about any cars outside of chevy

i hate it when people clone cars. if you want the real thing then buy it. otherwise just bild what you have. i mean what is the point of having a clone? anyways, and yes, please stop saying 289. i dont know if you are any more but i know you were alot, thats a ford engine i believe, chevy's is a 283. just claifying for ya.

i agree, stop making clones. the yenko was cloned and ive never seen a real yenko.

Yes the 289 is a ford engine, you can find them in some of the mustang saleens.
im not sure about the 283 though.

Im very sorry i kept sayin 289, i know its a 283, i grew up listening to my dad always talkin about the 289 that he had in his 67 mustang so im just used to saying 289, i apologise if i confused anyone. I am not thinking of just making a Z28 Matching perfectly except the tags(a clone) i just meant that i liked the 69 Z28 very much and i thought I would put the DZ 302 in my car with an M22 4-speed and a 3:73 rear end and do eveything else how I want it, this car is my personal project that I treat like my baby. Im very sorry if i confused anyone. By the way i completely agree with u guys that clones r a bad idea, if u wanna spend that kind of time and money to make the car JUST like it, u might as well spend a little more time and money finding one in need of it.
