anybody with a wide body kit?

I'm wondering, when they install the kit, do they put the fiberglass part over the oem panel or do they cut out the old area and work there magic on the fiberglass?

thanks

it depends if you get a new front bumper or if you got just a lip. If you get a whole new front bumper, then they take off your oem bumper and work from there, and if its a lip, they attach the lip to the bottom of your oem bumper. I hope that's what you mean.

Most good widebody kits provide the needed bumpers, fenders, and flares to widen the body out evenly along both bumpers and both wheel wells. Ground Designs Black Widow Special Edition Kit for the CRX is an example. Check their website and look at a pic, you should see what I mean.

i think he is asking whether or not they cut the old quarter pannels out or if they just put the new ones over it, i really dont know, i would think that they cut them out and replace them with the new ones

I haven't understood why they can't make fenders that already have that large flare so that you don't have to fiberglass it to the original fender

I have seem widebody kits where they replace the quater panel (crx black widow special editon), I have seem them whee the rear "widebody is an add on over it, similer to a fender flare (I've acxtually seen those AS the rear "wide body," lol). I don't know if there are any where they cut the old qauter panel off or not, but I haven't knowingly seen any like that.

yea i've alwayz wondered that...like specially in the back..if they just add on the kit to the car and screw it in and then put filler in the place and so forth...or they cut the piece out and then put the flare on.

Yea, the black widow special edition CRX kit replaces all the stuff I believe, it's a custom 11 peice kit...really spendy too. I've also seen a Celcia kit were they replace all the stuff, again very spendy..I've seen lots though were they just fit the stuff, the screw/doublesided tape (combo) it on, basically just adding it on to the car...There is a Veilside 350Z widebody kit were they install it like this...it's basically front and rear bumper, skirts, and gaigantic huge fender flares, which are basically fitted over, screwed on (not sure if there was double stick underneath, but that would have been more of a hold until it was screwed in than a permanent hold...I suppose you could use filler also, but this specific install didn't utilize it). There are different types of widebody kits, as this veilside 350Z kit and the CRX Black Widow Special Editon 11 peice kit (and the Celica Kit, I forget the manufactorer) show examples of.

I found a picture on the computer of the Veilside "widebody" fender flares I was refering to, though it only shows the rear drivers side. You can see where they are screwed on and where it "attaches" to the existing car quarter panels, in this case.

First off, try and check thread dates. This is the second thread I've noticed where it's been dead and you brought it back to life. This one was dead for a little over 5 months, the other one for about a month. Try and check thread dates and try and not post in dead threads when possible.

As for the CRX, I have not seen a kit like the Veilside 350 Kit that utilizes flares like the pic, though thats not to say it doesn't exist. The Ground Designs 2000 CRX Black Widow Special edition is a crx widebody 11 peice kit for the CRX. You have to go to www.grounddesigns2000.com to see it, and navagate your way through the site. It won't work as a posted link, and there's no way to copy and repost the pics from that site. Click on black widow, click on 88-91 crx, and you'll see the kit.
