warrantymetalhedskater 11-22-2003, 01:47 AM Does anyone know about warranties? I have a four year warranty on my eclipse, going on two years. I wanna modify my car more than just an intake and exhaust....does anyone know what i could still do and what i still cant do? kjewer1 11-22-2003, 09:19 AM Its not that simple ;) What the law states is that no dealer can deny you warranty coverage unless the part was the direct cause of the problem. For example, if you toss a turbo kit on there, and the AC compressor dies, they have to fix it. But if you put a rod through the block from trying to run 60 psi of boost, they will obviously be able to blame the aftermarket parts. From the vfaqs yet again, here is some more info: http://www.sema.org/content/?ID=22237 JoeWagon 11-23-2003, 06:12 PM If you have a factory warrantee, they will be a lot nicer about it than an extended one. Factory I think you can even have the dealership install mitsubishi parts without voiding it, and like 95 GSXracer said, it has to be the cause of the problem anyway. On the other hand, my extended warrantee for example (which I think you might have if it's a 2g) are very picky. They have denied to pay for one customer at the dealership with an engine problem because he had a 1.5 inch drop on his 2g. Good luck :) AmericanEagle 11-24-2003, 02:38 AM Also, shops can void your warrenty. I bought my car from a chrysler dealer with a slight oil leak. They fixed it under warrenty. The leak was still there. After the second time i went to my trusty Mitsu dealership. When they put my car up they took off the oil pump outer housing to find that it was missing a seal. Well, since the car was "missing" a part of it's original configuration it voided my claim for that repair. So it was either pay the dealership 175 bucks just for taking my car apart and putting it back togeather to drive to the chrysler dealership or have the mitsu dealership do it right. Cost me 600 bucks to get it done right cause of a idiot dealer. EclipsNgirl 12-01-2003, 08:23 AM I think a lot has to do with the dealership too. Our local car club gives a certain dealership all of our work and we buy all of our mitsu parts from them...in return they give us a 15% discount. The dealership knows most of us by name and they're pretty cool with us. My car had crankwalk and they replaced the engine and even threw on some mods for me while they had it up there in the air and the engine being put back in. They said why not do it while they had it apart...easier on me than having to take it back apart and do it myself  I love those guys kjewer1 12-01-2003, 10:28 PM It actually has a lot to do with how Mitsu looks at the particular dealer. All dealers are rated A through D for warranty work. I a dealer is covering things that shouldnt be coverd, wasting money, etc, Mitsu will give htem a low score. A dealership that is a D will have to have every part covreed under warranty set aside for up to 6 months, until a Mitsu warranty rep comes out to inspect the replaced parts. The dealership will have to get preapproval before bing money waranty work like and engine swap. An A dealership can do anything they want at thier own discretion, because Mitsu trusts them based on past performance. But for big jobs they technically still have to retain the parts for some time in case Mitsu wants to look at it. My brother has worked for dealerships on both ends of the scale, and its hard to believe they are even the same type of dealership, thier attitudes are so different... ;) Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
