87 Subaru GL 4WD For Sale87gl 11-18-2003, 10:54 PM Hi. I recently purchased a 1987 Subaru Gl 4WD from an elderly woman. It had sat for about 2 years, but the body is really good condition, and the interior is almost immaculate. She had purchased the vehicle new in 87, and still has all the paperwork. She gave me the origianl owners manual, receipt from the dealership when she bought it new, service records, every peice of paper she has ever received for this car!!! Car had a fuel problem. She took it to a local mechanic, and I think they made it worse. When I got it, I installed a brand new 2 year warrenty battery, a Carter lifetime warrenty fuel pump, dropped the tank and cleaned it, and then I installed a new valve cover gasket because it was leaking oil. I also rebuilt the carburater with a Walker kit. The car will now start and run, but it idles up and down, then dies. I am pretty sure it is as simple as vaccum (since the vaccum lines are either not on the correct spots, or blocked off by bolts.) I bought this car hoping for a quick fix and winter vehicle. I now have over $300 in parts, and about 14 hours labor. If I can simpley get my money back out of it, I am sure someone a little more knowledgeable could fix this in an hour or two. Car has 102,000 miles, automatic transmission, push button 4x4, cruise, power locks and windows, cassette, every option that was available. I can take pictures if anyone seems interested. The car is in Ottumwa Iowa, and like I said, it will run, but not really well. Let me know. 87gl 11-18-2003, 10:58 PM If someone knows where I could get a good detailed vaccum diagram off the internet somewhere, I may try to do that and keep it, the car is just too nice, and I am sure it is a vaccum problem, just havent got any more time or money to invest....... If interested let me know. Or if you know where to get the diagrams, let mek now that as well and I will try to fix it myself. My number is (641) 455-9311 Travis or email me: slammed_hombre@yahoo.com Rick-L-D 01-14-2004, 01:16 AM Wish I could help. Sounds like I have a similar problem, mine is with a 83 GL 4X4. I've been plugging/unpluging/rerouting/cursing vacuum lines for a few days now. Have you made any headway with your problem? Richard... rdodson4@yahoo.com Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
