Button next to gear shiftBluegrassBoy 11-18-2003, 02:04 PM Just bought a 2000 RX 300 from a local dealer. There is a button that is missing it's cover next to the gear shifter. What is that button? Also, has anyone added the K&N filter and does it make a differance? Thanks! BluegrassBoy jeremyp111 11-27-2003, 12:10 AM That button is supposed to have a cover on it. The button is useless to us as it's only used for Lexus service techs. I don't know the exact reason, but it's also there on my girlfriend's 99 toyota solara too. I've added the K&N filter to my RX300 and my gas mileage started to increase. Before I put it in I was getting 18.4 and by the time it stopped going up I had it up to 20.1 and now it's back down to 19.5. Mostly because I let my car warm up for a few minutes every day now as the weather up here in the northeast is getting colder by the day. Good luck with the RX dude. Match826 12-10-2003, 03:22 AM The button next to the gear shift is not useless to us. If some how your car wouldn't start but you have to move the car that's what the button's for, because if your car can't start then that means that you can not change the gear to neutral then you can't move the car. When that happens you have to push down the button then change the gear to neutral so you can move the car. It says in the oweners manual. jeremyp111 12-10-2003, 07:58 AM Thanks for the info on the button. Something the Lexus Service dept never told me. (I don't think they like to give any information to us owners anyway) lodownlv 04-23-2004, 07:02 AM the button is for Trac ect funtion this is is a limited item that comes with some rx300 what it dose is lock the diff. so say you are going up a steep hill and let off the gas you will role back. with this function it locks the diff on some 4w drive models so u dont role or slide. i would like to try the k&n filter or cold air intake somehow this air box is restricting 911S_TARGA_RSR 04-23-2004, 07:13 AM Yah the airbox is trash. Go with a K&N. lodownlv 04-23-2004, 07:15 AM you see the filter on this thing its like 20 layers thick! how you suposted to get air to the engine LOL 99RX300AWD 10-16-2004, 08:17 PM OK, First of all. That is in no way, shape, or form what the "TRAC" or Traction Control does. Second of all, the traction control is only available on the FWD RX300's, not the AWD's. The only thing that traction does is when the computer senses wheel spin (tires spinning in snow or loose terrain), it will shut down power from the engine taking power away from the tires, stopping the spinning. Third, this doesn't help at all in the snow. If you want good traction in the snow, get a AWD. The only other thing that will help the RX300 in the snow FWD or AWD, is the snow setting button to the right of the gear shift, this causes the transmission to start off in second gear, giving less torque the wheels. A AWD RX300 in snow mode will go anywhere you want in the snow! Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
