Transmission swap problem

The transmission give up on me (180.000 miles). I've purchased another low milage tranny. After the install the mechanic found its a different model. With only my luck, the company I've purchased from doesn t want to change it.
I ve a basic '89 Camry. The new transmission is from Camry DX model tgough. On the new tranny, shifting is electronical, controled by a car computer. I can only manually change the gears...
Does anybody know what all needs to be change, to upgrade my car with an DX computer?
Are the wire connectors same (some of them at least)?
Do I need to install some new sensors too?
Speed control computer?
Does anybody has DX computer and (or) wiring harness for sale?
Any sugestions, links, hints or manuals are in advance appriciatet.
Thank YOU.

Re: Transmission swap problem

you can try by disconctin the ECT plug. This is located behind the glove compartment, remove the glove compartment first. This will didable the electronic shifting.

It's to my understanding that all 89 Camry automatics are electronic shift. My 88 I4 has no specific trimline, but it still shifts electronically. I have a ECT in my car.

I never recall a Gen2 automatic without the ECT.
Anyone?

My first recommendation is to get yourself a Toyota 88 shop manual. You can probably get one used in good condition on Ebay. You will find the wiring diagram in there. Haynes also has a wiring diagram.

Good luck in resolving this issue.

Re: Transmission swap problem

yeah there are 3 diffrent setup for these cars my best bet for u is to go to a junk yard and get the clusterof a dx tranny that should include all of your sensers and all the proper wiring, the diffrent is on yours the wires are backwards and u cant really do anything but get the proper setup
