94 Astro - Nothing when turn key. HELP!

Thanks in advance to anyone on this forum who has a suggested solution.

My '94 Astro Van (v6) started fine this morning. Going down the road I turned my fan blower on. The vehicle died. . . . DEAD. Just prior to dying I heard a faint sizzle from the right corner of the dash. No smoke or smell. Less than 5 minutes later, it started up and ran just fine.

Second occurance today: Van started fine, I turned the headlights on and boom, died again. This time, I heard a buzzer coming from the right corner of my dash. Waited a couple of minutes and again, it started just fine. I drove home.

Last occurance today: About 30 minutes after getting home I went out to start the van. Dead. Absolutely nothing comes on when I turn the key.

I'm thinking I may have burned a fusible link, but have no idea where to look.

Any ideas?

Thanks again,

Lloyd

Lloyd,

Those fusible links should be located down near the starter.

Thanks for the help CD. Hopefully the rain will stop long enough tomorrow to slide under there and look.

Your mentioning rain leads me to a poetential solution. If the sizzle seems to come from the same place, is it possible that water is getting into a connector, causing these problems? I would checl any and all connectors in that area, carefully removing any corrosion, and than carefully retightening, after using some sort of moisture displacing spray. I would also check for grounds that are corroded, loose etc. Frequently, a ground will be sought through other accessories if the correct one is ineffective. Food for thought... Ray

Ray,

Thanks for the tips. The sun is just now peaking out, so hopefully I can get a look at it.

Thanks again,

Ray,

Your advice was right on target. With the rain of the past few days, together with crazy temperature swings from the low 40's in the high 60's in the afternoon, there was a lot of condensation up under the dash. Fortunately there are no water leaks, only condensation. I followed your advice, dried things out and boom. . . . . everythings fine.

Thanks again for this great help.

Re: 94 Astro - Nothing when turn key. HELP!

check your ignition switch, the eletrical part of switch, located under driver side dash, check to
make sure you have power and see if you have power coming out of either a yellow or purple wire, that is your starter signal wire, i have seen a lot of problems with those switches
