Question VSV Valve

Hey All:
My mom had a problem w/her check engine light in her '98 Camry and after many attempts with our regular mechanic, the toyota dealership mechanic found the problem to be the VSV value (aka tank bypass valve). Does anyone have info on this? We're just curious what it actually is.

Thanks

Re: VSV Valve

Shelly - I did a little searching on the web and it seems to say that the VSV (vacuum switching valve) and even the EGR (exhaust gas recirculating) valve are common problems on your year of Camry. The typical symptom is the "check engine" light coming on because the VSV at the charcoal canister is not switching properly. One forum owner paid $250 for the VSV plus $100 labor to have a new one installed.

Re: VSV Valve

Thanks so much! You hit it on the money. We had to replace it and paid the exact same amt.
