Angry 93 Taurus Brake light is on

My brake light is on and I shouldn't drive the car until it goes off. The brakes work when i push hard, but they make a creeking noise when I apply them. I was told that it's either air in the lines or not enough fluid in the resevior. How do i know for sure without it coming out of my pocket? How do I fix it? I would love any help you could give- dragonflier15@hotmail.com

Re: 93 Taurus Brake light is on

If the reservoir level is below something like half, the light will come on. The level will go down for two reasons: 1. Normal wear of brake linings, this usually means you need new pads. 2. LEAK, look at all components for sign of leakage. Especially wheel cylinders if you have rear drum brakes.
Brake fluid does not evaporate. If you add more fluid and it keeps disapearing you have a leak somewhere.

dear
toliver, low brake fluid will not make a grinding noise, you either need new shoes or pads, and you may have a cracked or broken rotor or drum to boot, once you install new shoes and or pads, your brake fluid resovoir should return to the narmal level.Regards,Mike
