2000 Dodge Neon brakes squealing

Hi all...I have a question that I hope someone can answer...
My 2000 Dodge Neon seems to have squealing brakes...probably need new ones im sure, but still, my concern is that they are the worst when I first get in my car and brake for the first 2 or 3 times. It is really bad at first, but then it goes away any of the following times I hit the brakes. I just hate how bad it is when I first get in my car in the morning or when the car has been parked for awhile. My brakes work fine but I do not understand why all the squealing at the beginning, and it is just horrible sometimes than others...would this be needing new pads? plus rotors? What do you think?

It's your rear brakes. They don't need to be replaced, it's just the nature of the beast. Mopar decided to use a hard, tough pad that wore well, and noise is the price we pay.

Drive your car about 25 mph and pull hard on the handbrake, but not hard enough to lock up the wheels. That always takes care of it for me.

I have a 2002 with 30,000 klms. Since new, it has driven me nuts with the squealing, and yes people look at you like, get off the road dude. Finally after the first year at 15,000 klms, and trying the emercency trick I left the car at the dealers and refused to pick it up. They replaced both front pads and rear shoes and rear drums. Not a squeal for a year. Dodge is aware of their brake problems, and excessive front pad wear. Go after market and enjoy. Good luck
