I just purchased a 94 Camry XLE (2200 4 cyl). On the drive home I noticed a burning oil smell while sitting at a stop light, on further inspection it was also leaving pools of oil when it was parked. The oil light also flashes a little at an idle. It has 109000 miles on it and otherwise runs perfect. I'm curious to know if they had a problem with sending units leaking or any other typical leaks. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Look for oil leaks at the distributor "O" ring. Both of my Camrys leaked there.

could also be coming from your oil pan or your tranny pan, that's where mine is coming from.. front passenger side near the front wheel. could also be your powersteering pump.

Thanks for the reminder.........my power steering pump also leaks exactly where you said. I just add a little power steering fluid with "stop leak" in it whenever it needs it. I haven't had to add any for a little while now so maybe it's working.

I don't intend to sound demeaning but with that much oil leaking, please be sure to keep your oil level topped up till you get it fixed.

My 92 Camry XLE (2.2L) leaked oil out the valve cover gasket and later from the oil pressure sensor. Both leaks occured at different times and caused the burning oil smell. Both items are relatively easy to fix (The oil pressure sensor took me 5 minutes to replace and cost about $10). Please note, however, that both of these problems were not causing me to lose a noticable amount of oil. The valve cover gasket leak was the only leak that caused small oil puddles to form under the car, and that was only after sitting for 3 or more days.

It is also very common for the oil cooler O ring to leak, making one believe that the pan "gasket" (FIPG form in place gasket) is bad.

Your car should have what is pictured.... Look real close for leaks.

That's a great photo....thanks for your time and effort in providing it for all of us. I'll try to find the oil cooler and take a good hard look for leaks.

There are two o-rings underneath the oil filter cooler canister(well actually in the little canister that the oil filter screws on to) I replaced both of these and my oil leak was immediately solved! Cost for both o rings was about $8.00. the hardest part of the change was getting the coolant lines free from the oil cooler housing. The dealership is where you can purchase these at and they showed me an "exploded view" of the oil cooler canister. It took about an hour and a half. About one hour was spent not wrecking the coolant lines as I removed them.
