Question Turn Signal Problem???

I have a 1997 Toyota Camry that has a turn signal problem.
The Left turn signal is quite dimmer than the right one.
The rear turn signal seem to be fine, but the front one is dimmer than the right front.

Funny things happening:
1.) When I turn on the headlights, the left turn signal flashes twice as fast as normal. The right turn signal is fine.
2.) When I turn off the headlights, and leave only the parking lights, the left turn signal flashes normally, but it's brightness is not normal compared to the right front.

Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks in Advance...
Dave

Could it be a relay going bad?

How about the Relays? Do you think this could be the problem? Also, the problem occurs only when the lights[either the parking lights or headlights].

Thanks in advance.

Dave you are not alone.

I have exactly the same problem on a '98 Camry. Left turn signal . I just don't know if it's dimmer than the right, I'd have to check that. The previous owner of my camry (a family member I trust) had the problem from the moment the car came off the lot new. It was checked and rechecked by the dealer and they could never find what was causing it.

dave it you get it figured out please post what you did. There's times when that fast blink just drives me nuts.

thanks!

Thumbs up Common Toyota issue

This is common with Toyota's...it is not a Camry or solara or tercel issue, it IS simply a relay issue. Sometimes a simple reseat will fix it but if not, go to the local wrecker and strip 4 or 5 models that are the same as yours. After you have done this swap from one to another til the issue is resolved.
Also the relay box under the hood comes right out with two bolts and is undone with only unclipping the harness (takes about 1 min to get them all) they are coated in white protectant.
Any dealer that takes an interest can find this "known issue" in the dealer data-tech system provided to their parts and service dept by Toyota.

Good Luck and feel free to ask anymore ?'s you have.

Re: Turn Signal Problem???

Adjust the contacts in the front plug socket very common problem with camry. Bend the two contacts out.

My Camry 98 had exact turning light problem(flashes/clicking sound twice fast on right side and noticeble dimmer on front right bulb). I was going to replace the bulb but had difficult to open up the side light cover. Then I was curious to just open up the fuse/relay box next to the battery. I pushed every parts inside the box and found quite a few were loose (I don't know which one is for the turning relay or if it's there). Luckly, when I tried my turning light again, it came back to normal (even w/o change the bulb). Therefore, I think it's just a contact problem in this case.

My turning light started twice fast again after a few weeks. This time, I replace the bulb and solved the problem. I found the old bulb was mounted loosely in the socket (wear out).

Re: Turn Signal Problem???

I have the same problem with my '98 Camry. The right is much faster than the left. I dont know bout the brightness, but ive heard that its most likely the relay, so im gonna check it out. What im wondering, is there a way to make both faster, without breaking anything or dimming the lights??

Re: Re: Turn Signal Problem???

I strongly suggest change the bulb first. It cost only ~$1 or so. Sure it fixed my problem.
