A/C Delco Professional Maintenance Free(supercedes Delco Freedom), #D07-79-6YR. If you can't find a parts house that will order Delco, check your yellow pages under "Battery Distributors", or white pages for an A/C Delco distributor. The trick is to find a dist./wholesaler who will sell to you. I get all my stuff from my local. Paid $97.77 for the battery. It's a 1/4" shorter than the original, but still fits the vent tube and hold-down perfectly. My receipt shows p/n 19001845 also. Good luck!

I got an A/C Delco Battery myself, but they told me the part number was 76-7YR or something like that.

I paid $150 CDN for mine, if you are Canadian check out this site:

http://www.acdelcocanada.com/theshop/english/acdelco/index.html

You can search for the closest AC Delco parts distributer there. Shop around, because the prices do vary.

Yes, 76-7year was the original group number. They don't make it anymore. Sears, Exide, Interstate do not make any that fit.

I live in Pennsylvania USA.

I can't believe this! I called the GM dealership last night and asked how long it would take to order a battery and they said 2-3 WEEKS!?!?

I called NTB, Goodyear, PepBoys, Advanced Auto, Parts America, et al...and a few other places and they didn't even have the ability to order it!

This is just getting silly. I need a battery like tomorrow and I never thought in a million years it would take so long to get one. Makes me feel like I'm driving a 1968 Porche as far as getting parts is concerned.

Thanks for all the replies, I will continue searching.

Indy, I did read your post, I guess I was still in shock at the price and that all the national chains around here didn't carry it.

It just seems so silly that I can't get a battery for a 95 GM vehicle. Granted the Aurora is rare in relation to other GM cars, but still...

I will call some more places tomorrow.

Thanks!

well I know a place around me that has them for 125 and i have friends that live in and around pittsburg, I travel by there every month if you want to work something out where we can get you that battery i wouldn't mind doing that, unless you need it right away.

Okay, sorry about that. You would think that there HAS to be some other vehicles that would be designed to accept the same battery! I could'nt believe it either. Maybe it's the vents on top? Virtually all the batteries carried, or ordered by, the chain stores are manufactured by Exide or Interstate under different labels. So don't even waste your time. I've already done that. It's usually the old "mom & pop"," been in business for 50 years" kind of parts places that can or will order A/C Delco anything for you. So I would look-up some place like that if you don't have a local dist. Hang in there.....it builds character!

Silverbullet, I stand corrected. Batterysales.com does in fact still list the 76-7YR for $125.25. I had a hard time just lifting it into the car, I can't even guess what shipping charges would be. I think it's beyond UPS weight limits.

Yes, I can confirm your part number. I just had to replace mine on my 96 Aurora and through extensive searching, A/C Delco PMF was the only battery I could find. Yes, the battery is 1/4" shorter AND about 1" not as wide, but the vent tube did fit. Up here in northern Canada, I paid a total of $204.00 cdn incl. taxes. Hope this battery lasts.

I found a battery for my 95 aurora at a local gas station. It was a gas station that had a small auto repair shop. It was about $20 cheaper than the dealer wanted. I was suprised the gas station had it because places like Pep Boys, Autozone, etc didn't have it.

I bought one that fits right into the slot and is the same size at wal mart and paid about $70 for it...it was one of those yellow batteries...had it in for 8 months and no problems.

Is it designed to be vented outside the car like the stock one? Otherwise what looks like a sealed, maintenance free unit is actually venting through the cell caps and into the cabin.

The owners manual mentions that this leads to corrosion of the seat belt anchors under there. I don't really want my 15 month old flying though the windshield, even if his carseat does resemble a fighter jet's ejection seat.

I had the same problem with my aurora and I could not find a listing.I just matched the power to a dry cell Costed $108.00 but you don't have to worry about the vent bucause there are no fumes.

For my 98 I just p/u at Murray's GM P/N 79-6YR for $99.00, with a
6 year warranty.
It was also for sale at AutoZone.
Per the AC Delco webite, AurtoZone and Murray's were authorized
AC Declo parts suppliers.

What kind of fumes are talking about? What hazards are there? I've noticed this hose like assmbly on the battery, is that what you are talking? What happens if this assembly breaks apart.

Lead acid batteries use liquid electrolyte as a conductor and it naturally produces sulfuric acid vapors, usually in very small amounts. However, when subjected to higher load demands, heat, and/or shorting, the battery can start to "boil" and spill fluid over into the cabin resulting in lethal vapor concentrations. The vent tube assembly is only $18 at the dealer and should be replaced every few years. It comes with a new floor grommet too!

Plus even in the normal small amounts the acid fumes eat the heck out of nearby bare metal. That's bascally what the blueish corrosion gunk all over your average battery terminal is.
