MY buddy just got an 87 grand national for three grand, so he's got a few more greens than he thought he would to give it a little more juice (like it needs it). besides exhaust, on a budget of about 1500 bucks what are some upgrades you guys would recommend. And out of curiosity are there bigger turbos available for it?

First on your list should be: A new fuel pump with a hot wire kit, chip, slicks or DR's, a good boost gauge and a Scanmaster, adj. fuel pres. reg., a K&N cone filter, new I/C hoses, do all of the spring cleaning on GNTTYPE.org, some high octane gas and have fun running 12's!!! :) Also, go to TurboBuick.com and learn everything you ever wanted to know about TRs.

Don't waste your money until you know what you want (mild or wild).
Learn first then go for it. Try to spend your money right the first time.
Do the free/cheaper things first (K&N, 160 therm, plugs, etc).

Turbos, injectors, cat back systems, down pipes, chips are expensive and should be carefully considered.

All of thoes things are a common recipie for a GN and they work awesome. A couple of things that are also nice is a RJC PowerPlate ($50). SMC alcohol kit, (somewhere inbetween 300 and 350 can't quite rembember.) and downpipe and external wastegate. The dpwnpipe and external wastegate are not a needed part to go fast but it is nice because you can adjust the boost from inside the car with just the turn of a knob on a regulator. Works great for tuneing. also if he is on a budget Turbobuick.com has a parts for sale forum. My setup is on my sig and i have less that $1000 in my car. Some parts are new some are not. If he values his car though DON'T do anything like turning up the boost or messing with the fuel pressure untill you have a scanmaster!!! With these cars you always need to know what the computer is thinking. If he wants a turbo I got a TE-44 siting over at percision turbo and engine getting rebult. When I get it back it is going to get sold. I'm asking $460 dollars for it give or take a few. A 44 is a real nice street turbo. efficient up to about 25 PSI and spools like a madman. Also it's a real loud turbo.

That's for sure, I've got a 44 and It sounds pretty wicked, It does spool pretty good though, also pulls pretty hard. By the way, I had 3 almost completely flat exhaust lobes and an intake lobe that could ahve played back up for one of tha journals, and I still outran my bud's z28. hmmm.. 3 cylinders and stil fast... I love these things!!! :bigthumb:

Don't forget to look at the hose between the wastegate and the actuator. If that is rotten or cracked, bad things can happen. Also, PLEASE check the fuel hoses near the intercooler support. They can rub and develop holes after a while. The car will burn up before you can even open the hood. When the engine was out of mine, I had them replaced with braided units.
