Favorite Arcade Fighting Game
Mine is the Mortal Kombat series. I loved 1 and 3. MK2 cheated too much. MK4 was "meh," but the 3D style was neat; other games did it better, though.
We used to have a Ultimate MK3 machine set to free play in the breakroom at work, and we would go to town on that machine for hours. It was great!!! Playing it at home on the PlayStation just isn't the same.
What's yours?

I really only play driving games and one flying game(AC4), but when I had my N64, my favorite fighting game was Killer Instinct Gold. Sabrewulf and Glacier or Glacious were my two man wrecking crew!

Overall, I liked Virtura Fighter 3 the most. I like the whole idea of interactivity with the environment, makes things a bit more believable.

Definently the Mortal Kombat series. MK4 didn't have enough characters in it. I think MK trilogy was the best since it had ever character there was.

The best fighting series is Mortal Kombat, but just for a normal fighting game DOA3 is amazing, if only you could get those graphics mixed with the Bouncer and a longer story line, it would be the best.

My friends tell me that DOA3 is just eye-candy and nothing more. I think the Capcom vs. SNK franchise is the best right now, but back in the day, I would have to say Street Fighter II. They firmly planted the fighting genre on the map, and brought out competetion from other software developers. I really, really have to respect that, aside from being a great game. However, on the console, I would have to say that Dragon Ball Z Super Battle 2 (on Super Famicom/SNES) was the best, but what can I say, I've been a die hard DB fan since Goku's gramps was still alive.

i love the MK series, and Tekken Tag Tournament.
killer instinct was good, and the ol' skool jump off from the 32X Eternal Champions.

New Mortal Kombat
There is going to be a new Mortal Kombat fo the PS2, it's all in 3D. It has 2 or 3 fighting stances and you can use weapons. There is going to be a lot of the original except for Lui Kang so I have heard, and Sub Zero has a vampire look to him. This game looks amazing, either once I buy or play this game I will update a new reply about it. I do have so more info so if you would like to know more about it please write back.

Wow, I am really shocked not to hear a single murmur of the terms, street fighter. Even though there was such a huge popularity in the past, are gamers these days seriously abandoning their roots for the obviously, the "new and improved"? I love my PS2, but I would never trade my SNES memories for any single next-gen console--or all combined for that matter. As for MK, the original MK was a breakthrough. The new crap is really a last ditch attempt to hang onto its famous name.
Or perhaps you are all too young and wet behind the ears to know the original Street Fighter 2.

It's only what you think
If you think that the street fight 2 is the best fighter game then you are very mistaken. In the games MK and Street Fighter the original, the graphics were terrible and the sound wasn't the best either. The new versions of the games are very good, better sound, better graphics, just better over all. The only thing that isn't good is the original characters, they should have the original but better looking charcters.
