Angry 2000 Impalla LS Crunching sounds

Have any of you poor fello Imappla owners had your car develop a shifting crunching sound when you first accelerate or when you stop.
The Factory has a service note to loosen and tighten the 4 engine cradlle bolts and that helps for a few hours and the loss of a day while it sit in the shop waiting...
Feed back ?? any one!!!

Shifting humming noise 2000 Impala

Wat, and any others having this problem:

I hope you're still monitoring this BB even from back in 10/03 when you first posted, as I have developed a similar problem with my 2000 standard, not LS Impala. Mine is a sort of a loud hum or buzz when shifting in all gears but no noise when cruising or idling. This noise seems to be getting louder and wonder how you made out with your situation? I do have an extended warrarty good for 2 more years and recently I was in to the service shop for a leak problem which they fixed ok. When I mentioned the noise problem the service guy made a kind of face and ignored my complaint and I didn't press it as I wanted the anti freeze leak fixed and thought I'd come back later with my shifting noise problem. Any light you can shed on it is appreciated greatly so I can steer the service adviser in the right direction. Thanks.

not sure if this is the problem but I believe that there is a service bulletin out about fuel tank baffles thet prevent fuel from sloshing back and forth in the tank after coming to a stop.

you're so right. i let my gas tank get real low, and lo and behold no more crunching sound. as soon as i filled it back up again, the sound came back whenever i stopped. guess its the gas sloshing back and forth.. that sucks.

My 04 does the same thing. Does the TSB include adding baffles to the tank ?

I had a similar problem with my 2000ls. It would shift very sluggish from 1st to 2nd accompanied by a humming sound. It turned out to be a syncro thrust washer(?) I'm not sure, but the tranny needed a total rebuild. It was under warranty. Haven't had any problems since.

Re: 2000 Impalla LS Crunching sounds

As I posted recently my noise problems turned out to be the alternator, not trans at all so grateful for that news. Nice when a story ends happily!!!

Happy motoring,

Keno
